I sanded off the rust and did some minor modifications ( chronicled here), but really nothing I did would be a significant improvement on a factory fresh fence (the handle change was purely for my tight shop layout). It lived a full life in a cabinet shop that ran the PM66 into the ground which is why I was able to buy it cheap. I bought mine used, rusty and ugly as sin. It's been through two sets of arbor bearings on his Grizzly saw and while I had to adjust the tabletop when I swapped bearings (I had to remove the table for access), the fence has not ever needed adjustment since it was installed (checked via dial indicator in the miter slot). My father bought his Biesemeyer about 30 years ago, when they sold a lighter weight homeowner version. They're the standard you'll find in cabinet shops everywhere.Įxcalibur makes a fence that glides a little more smoothly on bearings, and Vega has a competitive T-square product using a round rail, but once locked in, neither will deflect less, so by those standards, you will not find anything better.
